THE Publishers have pleasure in presenting to the public the SIXTY - SEVENTH ISSUE OF THE INDIAN DIRECTORY and while no specially new features have been introduced the work has been carefully revised from cover to cover. An enormous amount of labour is necessitated in the compilation of a work of this character which deals with such a vast area and a constantly shifting community including as it does the whole of the territories under the Government of India and all the Native States — independent and semi-independent.
The Publishers feel that the public are not fully alive to the value of the Conveyance' Section of the Directory and would like to call attention to the information it gives regarding the means of transit for both passengers and goods to every town nnd station of importance in India and Burma. Where the places are not served by a Railway the best means of reaching them are given.
A Directory of British and Foreign leading manufacturers has been appearing for some years past at the end of the book but this year we have decided to place this section in a more prominent position. It will now be found in the middle, directly in front of the Mofussil Section. It is hoped that with the revival of manufacturing trades in Europe this section will be expanded considerably. In the past it has been of great convenience to traders in this country and the Publishers are taking steps to amplify what they feel is a section of great utility.
The INDIAN DIRECTORY contains ten maps, namely, Bombay City and Bombay Island, two maps of Calcutta and one each of Madras, Delhi and Karachi, with a special Railway Map of India.
Special attention is still being given to the Chief Industries of India and Ceylon to bring together and record all the Industries at work in developing the resources of the country, and the Publishers will welcome any special information that will make this section of the book more valuable to the public. In the separate volume of this section which has been published for a good many years now, and is very popular, an Index of Residents and an Index of Gardens, Estates, etc., is added, which is a great convenience for reference, but would add too much to the bulk of the present volume and has therefore had to be relegated to the smaller book.
